Our Story
At Hotel Komugi, our vision is to preserve the character and history of traditional Japanese spaces by thoughtfully transforming them into modern, comfortable accommodations that respect their original spirit.
By carefully restoring historic buildings and sensitively adapting them for today’s travelers, we aim to offer guests an opportunity to immerse themselves in the charm, craftsmanship, and unique atmosphere of traditional Japan while enjoying the convenience, amenities, and comfort of contemporary living.
The Guesthouse
The building was originally a kimono shop and has been carefully transformed into a modern guesthouse while preserving its traditional character. The exterior features classic clapboard siding and wooden latticework reminiscent of a traditional machiya, evoking the charm of old Tokyo.
Guests are welcomed through a beautifully designed genkan entrance with an original wooden agari-kamachi beam and a striking fusuma panel painted by a local artist, depicting a Tokyo cityscape framed by cherry blossoms with Mount Fuji in the background and a resting frog symbolizing a safe return.
On the second floor, a warm dining space centers around a large table crafted from solid horse chestnut wood, seating up to 12 guests. The table is joined using the traditional chigiri woodworking technique, symbolizing connection and gathering.
Sliding shoji screens soften the natural light, while thoughtful touches throughout the house reflect the quiet beauty of Japanese design.
In one of the bedrooms, a small veranda features a maple tree alongside a mizusashi water jar and hishaku bamboo ladle, creating a peaceful corner that captures the calm atmosphere of a traditional Japanese home.
